Cover Letter
Dear Sir/Madam I wish to apply for the job of animator because I’ve always loved animation, it’s always been a preference to me. I like it a lot more than live action so I’ve chosen to work with animation. I feel like I would be a good choice as an animator and through this letter I will explain why. I love drawing, as a result I took Art in school. I also learnt about Graphics in school and so I know about drawing on a computer rather than paper as well. Which I’m sure is knowledge that would come in handy when animating. I also draw in my spare time, all animated style drawings and I’m pretty proud of a few of them. I think I’m pretty good at drawing, so long as it’s in an animated style. In BTEC Media, I learnt about various camera angles and which camera angles would help out with getting certain things across in certain scenes. Animation may generally be drawn and therefore have no use for a camera (with the exception of some types) but camera angles are still utilized in animation. Scenes are drawn in a certain angle in order to get across a message or emphasise the feelings shown in the scene. Another passion I have is writing, which might not help much with a job in animation but it might come up. If it does, I’ll happily utilize my writing skills in a job as an animator. I enjoy writing and I feel like I’m pretty good at it, honestly I feel my writing is better than my drawing. Problem is I’ve never written anything from scratch before, I’ve always had some kind of base for it whether it be a prompt or FanFiction which uses an already existing piece of work’s characters. That’s why I feel animation would be a better option than writing, because I’ve at least drawn something from scratch before. I have had experience with actual animation and not just drawing before of course. An example of this would be when I made an animated banner in ICT. So that’s why I feel like I would be a good choice as an animator. Please consider hiring me as one, I look forward to your reply. Yours Faithfully Katie

Name: Katie Roylance GCSE Results: Maths: C English Language: C English Literature: C Core Science: B Additional Science: C RE: C History: C Art: D ICT: C Performing Arts: Pass Personal Interests I do enjoy watching anime and playing some games, although I’m not very good at playing games so I usually end up watching someone else play the game instead. I enjoy drawing anime characters and colouring them in. While I’ve never actually drawn my own character I have thought up some designs in my head that just never ended up making it to paper. I also enjoy writing, more so than drawing honestly, I even have a few FanFiction up on the internet. I have also created my own stories, although they weren’t long in the slightest, they most definitely weren’t full length stories. Abilities I’m much better at working on my own than with a group but I would be able to work in a group if I knew exactly what I was supposed to be doing, without that I’d just get confused. I like to think I’m good at writing, some of my FanFiction has been complemented so I suppose that’s a good sign. As for my drawing, that’s been complemented too, by my art teachers. Despite this I still got a D in Art so I’m not really sure what happened there. Education During ICT I did learn about a little animation and during my Creative Media course at College I learnt about editing software and gained an understanding of how to properly use a camera, in addition to that I learned about camera angles and when would be a good place to use some of them. Job Roles in Creative Media
Animator: Animators produce a series of drawings/images; which create the illusion of movement when it is recorded in the correct sequence and projected. There are several different kinds of Animators including; 3D computer animation and 2D drawn animation. As you'd expect an ability to draw, whether on paper or the computer is strongly recommended for animation. While creating animation through puppets or models is possible and has even shown up in media several times, if an occupation in animation is what you're going to do for a living being able to draw would be for the best considering the most common type of animation involves drawings. As an animator you will be working full time, animation is a difficult thing to do and something that requires a lot of time. In order to be a successful animator you need to be committed to the job, without it you wouldn't last long. Translator: The career of translator requires a lot of knowledge regarding foreign languages and cultural differences as the job involves translating one language to another one, you also need to keep the tone and intent as close to the original as possible. In order to get into translating you're going to need to be able to speak and read several different languages, you don't necessarily need to be fluent but you would need to understand most of a language in order to translate from that language properly. Translating falls into the editorial category of job roles unlike with writing and animation ,which both fall into the creative category, translating is changing one language into another which is a form of editing. To become a translator you do need education, otherwise you wouldn't have the knowledge of other languages and cultures that you need in order to translate something that makes sense and is as close to the original material as you could possible make it. Writer: A writer is someone that uses descriptive and engaging written language to create fictional stories, poems and various other things like them. In order to become a writer you're going to need a good grade in English Language and English Literature, Creative Writing is also something that would probably be looked for so taking it in College or University might be beneficial. It's unlikely anyone would let you write for them without a good grade in English Language or Literature but there's a possibility they'd let you if you prove that you can write something good. If you're a solo writer, an author, you would decide when you work as well as decide you're own deadlines but if you're writing for someone else then they would decide the deadlines of you're writing. |
